Reiki Room For Your Sessions
You’ll need a place to give your Reiki Sessions. You can use a room in your home or rent an office space. An office gives a more professional appearance and is demonstration of your commitment. It is an additional business expense, but it can be cost effective by attracting more clients. However, if you can’t afford it at the beginning or if you’re guided to do so, it’s also possible to set up a room in your home to give sessions.
What you will need...
Basic things to start with:
- A Reiki Table – Bed
- A way to play music.
- Couple chairs.
- A Table
- Small filing cabinet for records
- Soft lighting, candles and incense are often helpful to create ambiance.
The more relaxing and comfortable your Reiki room is, the more receptive your clients will be to the healing work you do.
I’ve never heard of anyone being sued for a bad Reiki session. Liability insurance can still be a good idea in some situations. Professional liability insurance will protect you if for some reason the client claims he or she was harmed by the Reiki session. The insurance company will legally represent you and negotiate with the client or defend you in court, if necessary (even though this is unlikely to happen). However, the main reason to have insurance is that, it is required by hospitals and medical clients if you should get the opportunity to give Reiki sessions there. While you usually won’t receive pay for volunteering in a hospital or medical clinic, you will gain quality experience that will strengthen your professional credibility. The experience, and the opportunity will help enhance your bio. Also, likely increase the number of clients you have in your regular Reiki practice. It is tremendously rewarding on an emotional and spiritual level.
General liability insurance is different from Professional liability insurance. One or the other is important for you to have. It will protect you if your client should fall off your Reiki table. It will cover you if any of your clients get injured on your property.
It is recommended to get a professional occupational license for your Reiki Room. I say make it legit. Now listen up, this is very important for you to know, in hope this will save you some trouble in your process in attaining a professional license for your Reiki room.
In most states, Reiki is not categorized as a Massage Therapist. Depending on the city and county, Reiki is licensed under different categories, have different requirements, and zoning for Reiki varies per city and county.
I was so excited to find my first Reiki room. I subleased from a Massage Therapist, so I automatically assumed, licensing for Reiki should not be an issue. After I signed the contract, I went to the Local City Hall, I was informed that Reiki Therapy is under Personal Service licensing for that specific city. “Okay great!” I think to myself. Then the nice lady continued to do some research on the location I leased and was trying to license. She came back telling me that she was sorry, because Reiki is not zoned for that building. Therefore, they cannot issue me a license to do Reiki in that building. Weirdly, It was the only building in that corner that was not zoned for Personal Service license. What are the chances? It was definitely a lesson learned. I do hope you do not make the same mistake and this will save you time.
So I highly recommend checking your local business license division or City Hall prior to signing any lease. I was fortunate enough that the lady was understanding and voided our lease.
